Hi just a quickie on why there are 3 writing systems.
Kanji was the original language brought over by the Chinese (we all know that)
Katakana was formed by buddhist monks as a short hand to kanji so they could translate scriptures faster. Up until the end of WWII men only used this writing system and all legal documents were origianly written in Katakana.
Hiragana was only used by women, again it changd after WWII.
I'm glad I can already put my Uni education to use, money well spent!
