Karaoke!

Sunday evening was the best night I've had in Japan so far.

This can be summed up in one word.

KARAOKE!

Myself, Evan, Jason, Callan (an Australian we've met), Kaori (Evan's girlfriend) and two of her friends all decided to have a good, fun night out. And blimey, even though I paid for it today, by having the usual hangover delights it was bloody worth it.

Japanese Karaoke is cool, because you rent a booth, with your friends, unlike English Karaoke where you sing in front of total strangers. The room itself was large with a semi circular sofa that faced the TV and Karaoke machine and was, of course, sound-proofed. The selection of songs was truly impressive, having both Japanese and English songs, and myself and Evan started the evening singing a Beatles number, namely Ticket to Ride...which we kinda butchered.

The girls sang some Japanese tunes, and had rather sweet voices, with Kaori, in my opinion having the best voice. Then up stepped Jason, who I think is tone deaf. He sang Sittin on the Dock of the Bay, and like some American Idol reject sounded awful...If Simon Cowell had been there, profanities would have bounced around the room.

What's cool about Japanese Karaoke is that the food and alcohol is delievered to your room, all you do is pick up the phone! How sweet is that!

Anyhow, my first solo was No Surprises by Radiohead, to which Evan declared that it was the best vocal performance so far. Chuffed I moved onto Clocks by Coldplay and stunned even myself by reaching the falsetto in the chorus. By now, the room agreed I was a good singer. I felt chuffed. I've never considered myself a good singer, but to hear other people tell me, especially complete strangers (Kaori's friends) is really nice...especially for your ego! Ha Ha.

Not to be detered me and Callan attempted a duet of Slipknot's Duality...this for those of you who don't know is a metal tune, and it sounded hilarious. Jason also murdered Jeremy (Pearl Jam) and 2 Princes (Spin Doctors) before we all sang Bohemian Rhapsody...

So here is what I sang -

Ticket to Ride (with Evan)
No Surprises
Clocks
Jeremy (with Jason)
Karma Police
One (with Callan)
Duality (with Callan)
Bohemian Rhapsody ( with Callan, Evan and Jason)
In my Place

I have included some photo's and will have to go again!
